Legal translation is not the same as certified translation. Certified translation means providing an attestation of accuracy alongside the document. Legal translation means understanding what the document says, what obligations it creates, what legal concepts it relies on, and how those concepts translate between legal systems that may work quite differently.
Commercial law, for example, has very different mechanisms in common law systems (UK, Ireland, US) compared to civil law systems (Italy, France, Germany). A clause that is standard in an English law supply agreement may have no direct equivalent in Italian law. Our legal translators understand these differences and know when to translate a term literally, when to find a functional equivalent, and when to add a clarifying note.
We work on commercial supply and distribution agreements, joint venture agreements, shareholders' agreements, licence and franchise agreements, NDAs, employment contracts, settlement agreements, terms and conditions, privacy policies and GDPR documentation, and articles of association.
All legal translation engagements include a mutual NDA as standard. We do not discuss client matters, document types, or counterparty information outside the project team. Legal documents are deleted from our systems within 30 days of delivery unless the client requests otherwise.
